Women's Society of Union Church

Women's Society is short for Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) and that is what we do! We serve the lord in big and small ways and in the process become a close-knit group who enjoy being together once a month. The dedication in our book says in part..."I will keep in mind, no matter how small and modest an effort may be, if done for Christ, it will count now and eternally, contributing in ways that go beyond my understanding to my development as a child of God... as much as I understand how to, I do dedicate myself more willingly and fully to the service of God."

All women who attend Union Church are automatically members of the women's society. We welcome any and all who are interested in fellowship, fun, and the interesting aspects of our organization.

Women's Society meets the second Thursday of each month (except for in January and February) at 1:00pm in the Fellowship Room. We raise money for our church work by preparing a meal each Monday for the Quincy Rotary Club. Evlyn Parrish, Joyce Robinette, Barb Tanner and Judy Dobson each head a Rotary Committee of 4 to 5 people. These committees have certainly used their hands to further the Lord's work. We are very blessed to have women who are willing to commit to this on-going activity.

Women's Society has done many things for the church through the years. Yearly, we maintain the kitchen by replacing or purchasing supplies, utensils, equipment and repairs, we donate to the church budget monthly, support a World Vision Girl, purchase a book for the Quincy District Library in memory for the deceased members, and send cards and/or flowers during illness or rough times to those in need.

As members of the women's state Presbyterian and Baptist's organizations, we receive overland as well as overseas quotas to be filled each year. These consist of a variety of items such as strip bandages, hospital gowns, baby gowns, baby blankets, surgical glove holders, hats, mittens, scarves, knitted bandages, Christmas bags, etc., all of which are to be sewn or handmade. We are also asked to donate money, to purchase items requested, and to pay for not only the mailing of each of the boxes, but to include postage to help pay for the overseas mailing costs from the distribution center.

We would love to have any woman looking for fellowship and/or yearning to participate in a very worthwhile organization to join us. We are waiting to welcome you to our group.
