When most people think of the Branch County 4H Fair, good food may be one of their first thoughts. And anyone looking for delicious home-cooked food at an affordable price will be looking for the Grace Café and Holy Cow Grill.

In its 9th year of Union Church of Quincy ownership, the Grace Café will once again serve roast beef and pork dinners everyday. This is a tradition that has been continued since the eat stand was owned by East Ovid United Brethren Church. Daily specials may include scalloped chicken, macaroni & cheese, meatloaf, beef & noodles, and ham & scalloped potatoes. The eat stand’s pie is also a favorite.
The Holy Cow Grill can be found at the opposite end of the eat stand. Volunteers are up early getting organized to begin serving breakfast beginning at 6:00 a.m. The grill and deep fryer are kept hot throughout the day and late into the evening preparing burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, fries, and onion rings. There are many additional items from which to choose.
Tim Brockway, Darla Pohl, and Tia Tobolske begin planning for this project months in advance. They organize church volunteers to plan the meals, order the food, make improvements and repairs, and clean. And this is all before the eat stands opens and over 270 shifts need to be filled.
There is a reason other than fun and fellowship that these shifts are filled quickly by church volunteers who look forward to cleaning, preparing, cooking, baking, and serving great food during the 4H fair. All the eat stand proceeds go directly to helping others and spreading the Christian message.
Christian Outreach Ministries is an organization formed by the Union Church of Quincy that funds Christian mission trips and outreach projects. The eat stand profits go directly into this fund. International and National youth group mission trips, church mission trips, individual mission work, and Christian project startup funds are just a few of the ways these funds have been used in the past.
Support is not limited to Union Church groups. Local churches and Christian individuals are invited to apply for Christian Outreach Ministries’ funds. Specific eligibility criterion includes the requirement that the money be used for a Christian mission or outreach project. The application process begins when someone contacts the Union Church of Quincy office at 8 Fulton Street, Quincy, (517) 639-9545.
If you’re hungry, looking for an affordable beverage, or just want to visit with friendly people, stop by the Grace Café and Holy Cow Grill during the 2008 Branch County 4H Fair.
